The Cheater refers to episode 1 of the season 7 of the television series Forensic Files which was broadcast for the first time on October 12, 2002.

Plot summary[]

Details the death of Walter Scott (Walter Notheis Jr.), lead singer for the 1960s band Bob Kuban and the In-Men, who disappeared in 1983. James H. Williams, Sr. was later arrested and convicted of the murder of Scott and the earlier murder his wife, Sharon Williams.

Trivia[]

  • The episode's title was taken from the Bob Kuban and the In-Men's single of the same name, released in October 1965. The single was featured on the 1966 album, Watch out for The Cheater. The Cheater remained the band's only Top 40 hit single, going to number 12 on the Billboard's Top 100 in the US and going to number 37 on the RPM's Top 100 in Canada on the 11th April 1966.
    • The popularity of The Cheater had resulted in the in the band being inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
  • The episode mentioned that Scott was shot in the back, in reality, Scott was shot in the chest.
  • James Williams, Sr. had died in hospice at the state prison in Potosi, Missouri at the age of 72 on the 11th September 2011, while Scott's bandmate Bob Kuban died of a stroke at the age of 84 on the 20th January 2025.
